High-school students are coming together to support one of their own in a music jam that doesn’t involve a single electric guitar or drum kit.

This year’s Jammin’ for Jess fundraiser—named for student Jessica Wilson, who has Type 1 diabetes—for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is subtitled A Recital for Hope. Its stars are Canadian Music Competition–winning cellist Tate Zawadiuk and award-winning pianist and Churchill Secondary School student Xiaoyu Huang.

They’ll play a program featuring Ludwig van Beethoven, Astor Piazzolla, and Dmitri Shostakovich—not to mention a composition by local 10-year-old Spencer Tsai—when they hit the Koerner Recital Hall stage on Friday night (April 17).
