Elektra Women’s Choir and Vancouver Cantata Singers make for a musical weekend

Fans of choral music have to make a difficult decision on Saturday (May 2): should they check out Elektra Women’s Choir premiere of local composer Kristopher Fulton’s Valkyrie at St. Andrew’s–Wesley United Church, or audit some of his older works with the Vancouver Cantata Singers at UBC’s Blusson Spinal Cord Centre? Compounding this problematic choice is that Elektra’s show features three other excellent women’s choirs, while Cantata’s Voices of Vancouver II program is dedicated to B.C. composers, including luminaries Stephen Chatman, Jon Washburn, and Jocelyn Morlock. Fulton, Cantata’s composer in residence, won’t be the only one wishing he could be in two places at once.
