The Vancouver International Burlesque Festival is pulling out extra tassels, feathers, and glitter for its 10th-anniversary celebrations at the Vogue Theatre from Thursday to Saturday (April 30 to May 2). And the sheer variety of acts, from gorelesque to boylesque to sparkling classic burlesque, speaks to how much the art form has evolved and diversified over the past decade.

The opening night is being dubbed Throwback Thursday, featuring acts from previous fests, including the event’s cofounder Crystal Precious, Pink Flamingo Burlesque, and the Starlet Harlots.

Performers throughout the rest of the fest include Midnight Martini, a specialist in aerial burlesque; Mr. Gorgeous, the King of Boylesque, who was named Mr. Exotic World in 2014; Judith Stein, a legend in Canadian burlesque who has been bumping ’n’ grinding since the 1970s; and Toni Elling, the Duke’s Delight, another veteran who dances to music from the era of Duke Ellington.
