Coastal City Ballet’s Cinderella at the Centennial Theatre

Other than the usual Yuletide Nutcrackers, there aren’t many opportunities to see performances of live, classical ballet in Vancouver.

That makes the Coastal City Ballet’s Cinderella a glistening treat when it hits North Van’s Centennial Theatre on Friday (May 15) and the Surrey Arts Centre on May 30. Set to a hauntingly beautiful score by Sergei Prokofiev (whose music made such an impact with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Romeo + Juliet here last year), the full-length work is being choreographed for the emerging dancers by former Stuttgart Ballet member Irene Schneider. The lush costumes by Stefan Stanisic and set by Eberhard Matthies also hail from Germany, helping to bring the famous fairy tale to life.
