Since her first standup gig a decade ago, DeAnne Smith has cut a swath through the comedy world with a “maple-butter-sweet voice and effortless charm” that “lets her get away with murder”, as the U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper once put it. So it’s only natural that she turned up as a semifinalist last year on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and then topped that success with a win as best female standup at the Canadian Comedy Awards just a couple of months later.
