Emily Carr University alumnus Patrick Cruz wins $25,000 RBC Canadian Painting Competition

      The 17th Annual RBC Canadian Painting Competition named Patrick Cruz as the winner last night at a gala that took place at the Contemporary Art Gallery.

      Cruz was awarded the $25,000 top prize in the annual painting competition for his piece Time allergy.

      The Emily Carr University of Art + Design alumnus was chosen as the winner among 14 other finalists from across Canada, including 3 other Emily Carr alumni.

      Cruz’s win marks the seventh time an Emily Carr alumnus has taken the top prize in the past decade.

      His work will become part of the RBC Corporate Art Collection that boasts of over 4,000 works of distinguished artists collected over the past hundred years.

      All 15 finalists in the competition will have their work on display at Vancouver’s Contemporary Art Gallery (555 Nelson Street) until November 29.
