The U.K.’s biggest choreographic star makes a return to DanceHouse in next year’s season.
Wayne McGregor, whose company Random Dance’s intense Entity wowed crowds here in the 2011-12 seasons, kicks off the lineup with Far on September 25 and 26 at the Vancouver Playhouse. Using a computerized pin board of 3,200 LED lights, it’s inspired by the Age of Enlightenment and 18th-century French philosopher Denis Diderot’s first set of encyclopedia.
Israeli choreographic force and Batsheva Dance alumnus Sharon Eyal brings her company L-E-V and its work House here November 14 and 15 at the Playhouse.
La La La Human Steps star Louise Lecavalier also returns to perform a duet she’s choreographed herself, So Blue, January 20 and 21 at the Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts in SFU Woodward’s (a copresentation with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and the 149 Arts Society).
Montreal maverick Marie Chouinard brings her abstract-art-inspired Henri Michaux: Mouvements & Gymnopédies here for a show February 27 and 28, 2015 at the Playhouse.
And Compagnie Käfig, an utterly unique company the blends a French-Algerian, circus- and hip-hop-trained choreographer with 11 male dancers from Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, closes the season April 10 and 11, 2015.
