We love how evocative the name for the B.C. Chinese Music Ensemble’s upcoming concert is: Bamboo, Silk, and Maple describes perfectly the way its historical sounds from the Jiangzu region have melded with its new Vancouver home. The concert, Sunday (April 27) at the Norman and Annette Rothstein Theatre, celebrates the release of the CD Bamboo Shoots in Spring and features a premiere by Zhumin Yu, the ensemble’s ruan virtuoso (shown here), as well as ensemble leader Gui Lian Liu performing Spring Rain, a traditional work for solo pipa. Expect mesmerizing sounds of the season.
