Centre A has announced that Makiko Hara is returning to the Chinatown gallery for contemporary Asian art as their 2016 curator-in-residence.

Hara, who is based in Vancouver and Tokyo, served as chief curator at Centre A from 2007 to 2013 as well as interim director.

She is also a contributing curator for Mash Up: The Birth of Modern Culture, which runs from February 20 to June 12 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

At Centre A, Hara will curate two upcoming exhibitions, collaborate on fundraising, and participate in the development of the centre's 2017 to 2019 programming.

She'll be curating Patrick Cruz's exhibition Bulaklak ng Paraiso (Flower of Paradise), which runs from March to May. It will be Cruz's first solo exhibition since he won the $25,000 RBC Canadian Painting Competition in 2015.
