Deadline extended for City of Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Awards

      The City of Vancouver has extended its nomination deadline for the Mayor’s Arts Awards until May 16. These awards are given to established and emerging artists that work in all fields of arts, from visual art to culinary art, dance to theatre, and everything in between.

      The awards also include awards for business support, philanthropy, and volunteerism, chosen by juries consisting of community members who are active in these fields. A lifetime achievement award is also given to an artist who has devoted their life to their craft.

      The winners of the artist and emerging artist awards, as well as the lifetime achievement awards, receive cash prizes, while special non-cash recognition is given to the recipients of business support, philanthropy, and volunteerism awards.

      Last year’s lifetime achievement award went to landscape architect Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, who has collaborated on a number of Vancouver projects over the last 60 years. Her work is mindful of its environmental impact, and she is known for integrating her projects into the natural environment.

      Nominations for this year’s award are currently being accepted through the online nomination process, and entries require two nominees to be considered.

      The 2014 Mayor’s Arts Awards will be presented On October 7 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. More details, and the nomination form, can be found here.
