Yarilo Music Ensemble’s Timeless Circles at the Orpheum

New piano music has never looked so cool: it gets a multimedia injection at Yarilo Music Ensemble’s annual concert, Timeless Circles, on Tuesday (May 27) at the Orpheum Annex. The cutting-edge musical adventure features Anna Levy and Jane Hayes at the keys, with Martin Fisk on percussion.

And your head might just be spinning after this one.

Featuring the composers Eric Satie, Simeon Ten Holt, Colin MacDonald, and Liubomir Melnyk, the show explores how music can move in circles instead of straight lines. That’s an idea reflected in the video imagery (by 11thirty Media), which will be projected on the floor around the performers and will become more abstract and corrupted as the music becomes more experimental.

Add dance to the mix, too, with CatchingArt Contemporary Ballet Company performing to MacDonald’s “Firewalk”, and you’ve got a concert that defies categorization.
