Alan Jacques: Inherent Design: Street Photographs of Paris & Vancouver

Shot over the course of a 12-year period, the collection of 30 black-and-white images in Alan Jacques' latest exhibition showcases the streets of Paris and Vancouver through wide lenses and low angles, challenging conventional perceptions while capturing unique moments. Shot on 35mm film, Jacques' photographs have been described as "follow[ing] the tradition of such great street photographers as Henri Cartier-Bresson... yet they are refreshingly new." Having lived with Parkinson's disease for more than 27 years, the artist hasn't let his ailment disrupt his life's work. Inherent Design: Street Photographs of Paris & Vancouver will be on display at Visual Space Gallery as part of the Capture Photography Festival from April 1 to 7.

Patrick Campbell and Allison Killough: Through a Blue Cloud all the Light Looks the Same from the exhibition Do You Dream of Sunshine When You Sleep? at Field Contemporary (17 West Broadway) from April 1 to 30. An opening reception will be held on April 1 (Friday) from 7 to 10 p.m.

Patrick Campbell and Madison Killough: Do You Dream of Sunshine When You Sleep?

Artists Patrick Campbell and Madison Killough combine art and design to "construct an experimental environment" in this exhibit that examines the relationship between light, atmosphere, and healing. The duo explores this relationship in two mediums, photography and sculpture, to create a meditative atmosphere for spatial reflection that leads the viewer to experience both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional properties of light. Campbell and Killough's work is informed by architecture, modernism, contemporary art, and the idea of atmosphere. Do You Dream of Sunshine When You Sleep? will be on display at Field Contemporary as part of the Capture Photography Festival from April 1 to 30.

David Ogilvie: from the exhibtion Weird Worlds at Carnegie Community Centre (401 Main Street) from April 1 to 30. An opening reception will take place on April 1 (Friday) from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

      David Ogilvie: Weird Worlds

Hosted by the Vancouver Foundation and made possible by their DTES Small Arts Grants program, this exhibition features the surrealist drawings and paintings of David Ogilvie. The artist's work is inspired by classical and surrealist art, and in the series being presented at Carnegie Community Centre, he merges his inspirations with the 19th-century book etching style to produce otherworldly pen and pencil drawings that evoke feelings of loss, anonymity and chaos. Weird Worlds will be exhibited in Carnegie's art gallery (third floor) from April 1 to 30.

Marta Iwanek: from the joint exhibtion 2015 Pictures of the Year presented by News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC), as part of Capture Photography Festival. This exhibition will be on display at Pendulum Gallery (885 West Georgia Street) from March 28 to April 9.

News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC): Pictures of the Year 2015

The work of Canadian photojournalists will be exhibited at Pendulum Gallery as part of this year's Capture Photography Festival. The News Photographers Association of Canada's (NPAC) ninth annual Pictures of the Year awards don't take place until late April, but in advance of the ceremony, finalists from 14 categories will be showcased in this exhibition. Works presented fall into categories like spot news, feature, sports action, pictorial, portrait, and more.
