It’s unusual to see a fashion show, film screening, gallery viewing, and concert all in one night, but RAW: Vancouver’s third show of the 2014 season, Panorama, combines all four art forms into one evening of creativity.

The show will feature work by contemporary painter Donna Giraud, who was recently selected to show her work in a New York City gallery, as well as local indie band Coastline Pilot. A short artistic film by photographer David Naman and makeup artist Nat Danson is also on the schedule.

“It really as a whole is an amazing experience, and the artists who put their work in really work hard to really put their best foot forward,” Alyssa Brownsmith, the Vancouver showcase director for RAW, told the Georgia Straight by phone.

Brownsmith, who handpicked the featured artists, hopes that Panorama will show off some of Vancouver’s best up and coming talent.

“I hope it brings in a wider appreciation for the arts community within our city. We have some really great, talented people, and it’s nice to bring that to the forefront,” she said.
Brownsmith noted that the format of the showcase is unique, because it allows people that wouldn’t normally seek out a certain type of art to expose themselves to new things while still exploring what they love.

“This allows the community to be exposed to all sorts of different genres,” she says. “And it makes for a really enjoyable experience, for an evening to be curated in a way where you can have all these things enveloped under one roof.”

The event takes place from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Thursday (June 19) at FiveSixty (560 Seymour Street). Tickets can be purchased online and cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
