Music in the Morning, Vancouver’s leading producer of chamber music in the a.m., has announced its 2014-2015 season. The season continues their tradition of highlighting talented and diverse performers with the decorated Dover Quartet as well as renowned sopranos Isabel Bayrakdarian and Dawn Upshaw on the program.

The series opens with the Dover Quartet, the 2013 winner of the Banff International String Quartet Competition, from September 17 to 19. From October 15 to 17, Alice Giles, famed harp soloist, will be joined by Barry Shiffman to perform Saint-Saëns’ Fantaisie for Violin and Harp.

Steven Schick, percussionist, will perform from November 19 to 21, and 2014 will wrap up with performances by Irish master pianist John O’Conor, from December 10 to 12.

Starting off the new year is the Gryphon Trio, Juno award winners who have performed at Music in the Morning many times before. They will take the stage from January 21 to 23, 2015. From February 18 to 20, Grammy award winner Dawn Upshaw and Gilbert Kalish will perform.

Soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian will sing, accompanied by her husband Serouj Kradjian on piano, from March 18 to 20. Finally, the Weiss Kaplan Newman Trio will perform works by Antonin Dvořák and American composer Lera Auerbach from April 22 to 24.

All shows in the main concert series are at the Vancouver Academy of Music and begin with refreshments at 10 a.m. and the concerts themselves at 10:30 a.m. Coffee and other refreshments are included in the concert ticket.

Apart from the main season, Music in the Morning will also be hosting Tuning In, a series of four talks with prominent musicians and acclaimed interviewer Eric Friesen. Also at the Academy of Music, Friesen will interview artists and music lovers including the Honourable Bob Rae on October 1, Ben Heppner on November 5, Simon Osborne on January 28, 2015, and Jan Lisiecki on April 1.

Finally, Music in the Morning is also putting on a special Mother’s Day presentation in conjunction with the Kay Meek Centre. The famed quartet Quartetto Gelato’s performance will include solos, gypsy show pieces, and a world accordion champion. The performance will take place on May 10, 2015, at the Kay Meek Centre.
