A favourite for children and parents alike, the annual Vancouver International Children Festival returns to Granville Island on May 30. This year, the interdisciplinary arts festival will bring interactive performances and activities to six different stages on the island.

The schedule for this year's event features a diverse line-up of theatrical shows from regional, national, and international performing artists.

Highlights include Asoma, presented by Mexico's Teatro al Vacio, at Carousel Theatre. This interactive performance uses a combination of music and movement to create a theatrical experience especially for babies.

Circus Incognitus sees Cirque Du Soleil veteran Jamie Adkins performing acrobatic feats with everyday objects, and while the hilarious attempts are at times hit-or-miss, the acrobat shows audience members about the importance of determination. The Granville Island Stage will host Circus Incognitus.

Another must-see brings world-renowned clown Gale LaJoye to the stage at Waterfront Theatre. In Snowflake, LaJoye becomes a street character whose antics play on illusion, music, and dance. The show, based on the story of a real-life person from LayJoye's hometown, celebrates it's 25th anniversary this year.

Festival passes and tickets for individual events are now available at www.childrensfestival.ca. The festival will run from May 30 to June 5 at Granville Island. To see the full lineup of shows, click here
