On May 11, REVERB—an anti-oppressive reading series for queer writers—hosts its first show of 2016 at Gallery Gachet (88 East Cordova Street), featuring the Vancouver launch of Vivek Shraya’s debut collection of poetry, even this page is white.

REVERB, renowned for their profoundly inclusive environment, has assembled a wide cast of readers, presenting Shraya, Jennie Duguay, Cecily Nicholson, and Molly Billows, as well as a welcoming by Lorelei Hawkins at the beginning of the night.

Shraya’s even this page is white, her first release of poetry, is described on her website as “a bold, timely and personal interrogation of skin—its origins, functions and limitations”. Shraya’s nonconforming style is cited as an effective written means to pulling down “the barriers that prevent understanding of what it means to be racialized”.

Shraya, one-half of the musical duo Too Attached, has written both albums and novels while building her medium-spanning career. A professional artist for over 13 years, she offers one-on-one mentorship in music, film, writing, and even self-motivation to artists of all genres.

Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 7:30 sharp.
