Rove takes guests through Mount Pleasant artists' studios

The one-night art tour called Rove could not be better-named: it’s a chance to wander through eight Mount Pleasant studios at will, discovering the emerging talent that thrives in the area.

Taking place Thursday night (August 7) from 6 to 10 p.m., the event has a slightly different format than other open-studio gigs in town: it’s based on a gallery tour in Portland, with a map given at the first location (the Meccanica presentation centre [104 East 1st Avenue]), inviting visitors to walk, cycle, bus, or four-wheel it to the other spots—in this case, WAAP, Hot Art Wet City Gallery, Rebecca Chaperon, Kafka’s Coffee, Bird on a Wire Creations, Maker Labs, and the Archer & the Horseman Gallery.

Make sure to take the time to look at artist Jamie Smith’s work (above) at Meccanica: in the exhibit called Words to Live By, she’s painted pieces inspired by words submitted to her by local residents. They should give you something to talk about as you rove the rest of the openings.
