A diamond-encrusted, solid-gold eagle statue was reported stolen in Ladner.

On May 29 at around 10 p.m., Delta police responded to a call about a robbery at the 4700 block of 57th Street in Ladner. The victim was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital.

The sculpture, called The Golden Eagle, is worth an estimated $5 million.

The 18-karat white gold head is covered in 763 diamonds and also has a 14-karat yellow gold beak.

The eyes are made of 1.1-karat pear-shaped diamonds.

The body is made from 14-karat yellow gold and has 14-karat white gold tail feathers, and it sits atop a base made of 10-karat yellow gold. Between the eagle and the base rests the 12.72-carat Atocha Star Emerald.

The eagle had been on display at Art! Vancouver, which was held from May 26 to 29.

Artist Kevin Peters spent over 4,000 hours making the statue. It was created to raise money for breast cancer research.
