6 shows set to heat up Vancouver's summer arts scene

      Aside from the bursting roster of arts festivals, there are a number of big shows vying for your attention. Here are just a few of the highlights on the cultural calendar this summer in Vancouver:

      (June 18 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre)

      The beloved comedy icon rewinds through her career and lets the crowd take part in her show An Evening of Laughter and Reflection Where the Audience Asks Questions.

      The Big Picture: An Improvised Movie

      (June 30 to August 27 at the Improv Centre on Granville Island) 

      Vancouver TheatreSports League goes Hollywood this summer, staging a new, fully audience-suggested blockbuster every performance.

      Quelemia Sparrow blends humour and insight in O'wet/Lost Lagoon.

      O’wet/Lost Lagoon

      (June 21 to 25 at the Firehall Arts Centre)

      Alley Theatre celebrates National Aboriginal Day with a solo show by Quelemia Sparrow that combines humour-tinged stories from her life as a mixed-race aboriginal woman with a spiritual canoe journey.

      Rock of Ages

      (June 16 to July 30 at the Arts Club Granville Island Stage)

      Bang your head to Poison, Journey, Twisted Sister, and Bon Jovi in this seriously silly musical tribute to the hair-metal 1980s.

      Picasso: The Artist and His Muses

      (Friday [June 11] to October 2 at the Vancouver Art Gallery)

      The VAG’s big new summer exhibit takes viewers on a trip through the genius’s artistic and personal relationships with six women.

      All Together Now: Vancouver Collectors and Their Worlds

      (June 23 to January 8, 2017, at the Museum of Vancouver)

      Wall-to-wall offbeat and rare objects—including action figures, Chinese-food menus, pinball machines, and prosthetics—from 20 Vancouver collectors.
