Fringe Fest 2014: frighteningly funny Chase and Stacey's Joyride flies unfettered

I love it when comedy feels like skydiving. In Chase and Stacey’s Joyride, the free association is so unfettered that you have no idea what’s going to fly past you next. The body of the piece features 12 short scenes. One set of three involves a pair of sports commentators who have sex together. When he asks her not to refer to her vagina as her “down there”, she substitutes—among other things—“cave of wonders” and “hippo’s yawn”. Writer and performer Chase Padgett, who brought us 6 Guitars last year, is almost frighteningly funny, and he’s found an excellent playmate in co-writer and performing partner Stacey Hallal. On opening night, some of the improvised scenes failed to find cappers, but that’s a quibble about one of the most exciting shows at the Fringe.

      At the Revue Stage on September 8 (7:30 p.m.), 10 (8:40 p.m.), 11 (5 p.m.), 13 (noon), and 14 (8:45 p.m.)
