Vancouver New Music's just-announced 2015-16 season boasts the debut of New York's Talea Ensemble, a look at the pioneering voice-and-technology work of Andrea Young, and an entire festival devoted to mechanical music.

The 2016 Vancouver New Music Festival is set to run October 13 to 15 with the title Mechanical Music, featuring an array of Canadian and international artists who have used mechanical and algorithmic systems to generate sound works, compositions, and installations. Artists on hand will include Canada's Adam Basanta, Peter Hannan, and Camille Heskethm along with Australian Lucas Abela and Norway's Koka Nikoladze, plus many more. Concerts take place each night at the Annex.

On November 19, Vancouver New Music presents Young's ensemble EXO/ENDO, in which the group takes the Canadian artist's specialty in processed, amplified, and resynthesized voice to new heights in works by Ulrich Krieger, Erin Gee and John Mutter.

On February 18, 2017, Norway's a cappella group Nordic voices will wow crowds with a program of works from its home country.

And on March 11, Talea Ensemble will present work by composers like Pierluigi Billone, Clemens Gadenstätter, and Olga Neuwirth, alongside a world premiere by young Canadian composer, Stefan Meyer. The big draw of the program is Billone’s Ebe und Anders, scored for solo trumpet and trombone with ensemble.

Finally, on April 8, VNM wraps up its season with the return of the U.S.'s Mantra Percussion will premiere works by Canadian Paul Dolden (a commission by VNM) and Tristan Perich.

Amid its community events, watch for its annual Soundwalks on September 25 and October 2, as well as Montreal recorder virtuoso Terri Hron premiering a work created in collaboration with Vancouver-based composer Hildegard Westerkamp on September 30 at the Vancouver Community College atrium.

Subscriptions for the concert series and pass for the fest are available now through www.brownpapertickets.com/. Single tickets go on sale starting September 1.
