Vancouver Opera turns to crowdfunding to take Stickboy on the road

Vancouver Opera has entered the world of crowdfunding.

In an effort to bring Stickboy, the new opera based on Shane Koyczan's true story of bullying, to young people across the province, it's hosting a campaign on FundRazr to gather microdonations. The funds will be used to purchase a portable 78" LED screen that will display the opera's integral, graffiti-like animations, created by Giant Ant and projected in the full-scale production on three large screens.

The opera, composed by Neil Weisensel with a libretto by Koyczan, had a successful premiere at the Vancouver Playhouse earlier this fall. It is now being converted into a 45-minute version that will tour to schools and community venues in 2016.
