Renowned contemporary calligrapher Wang Dongling will conduct a live performance at the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street) on October 4 at 7 p.m.

Guests will get to watch Wang write the Heart Sutra, one of the most important Mahayana Buddhist scriptures. He will be using his own calligraphic technique known as “chaos scripture (luanshu)”—a style that sees characters and entire column of texts interweave with each other.

Wang has been practicing calligraphy for six decades, and has recently performed this work at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museum in New York, and the British Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This performance will be carried out on the first floor rotunda of the Vancouver Art Gallery, and can be viewed from both the first and third floor rotunda.

Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Admission is free for gallery members, and by donation for all other attendees.
