Bullet Catch at the Revue Stage

Here’s a way to start your new year of theatregoing with a bang: in the show Bullet Catch, Glaswegian writer and performer Rob Drummond performs the stunt of the title—a magic trick considered to be so dangerous that even Harry Houdini refused to try it. In it, a bullet is fired directly at the performer, who catches it in the teeth—or not, as so many magicians over several centuries have famously failed and met their deaths. But Drummond takes the idea farther, playing the role of magician William Wonder, mulling over ideas of free will, performing illusions, forming a death-defying bond with an audience volunteer, and generally dazzling you with magic and theatre.

The Guardian called the show, which has travelled around the world, “a touching, clever and unique performance experience”, but admits it does become too intense for some in the crowd.

See if you can handle it in this early PuSh International Performing Arts Festival copresentation with the Arts Club Theatre, at its Revue Stage from next Thursday (January 15) to February 7.
