The Vancouver park board’s field houses are set to host a new round of resident artists.

Artists starting studio residencies this year in nine cottages formerly occupied by park caretakers include Iris Film Collective, Vancouver Society of Storytelling, and Mr. Fire-Man, otherwise known as interactive, instrument-making artist David Gowman.

Publik Secrets, a group of musicians, fabricators and visual artists, will take up residence in Hadden Park, the Vancouver B Movie Factory will be in Moberly Park, and the Oak Park field house will host chART: Public Art Marpole, a research partnership between the Marpole community and Cameron Cartiere of Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

An additional three field houses will serve as shared spaces as part of the Vancouver Biennale international artist residencies. Pandora Park will host performance collective Dance Troupe Practice, Lexie Owen will be located in Burrard View Park, and Instant Coffee will occupy the Second Beach field house.

The park board’s field house studio program provides artists with studio space in exchange for offering community workshops, performances, and events.

Artists are selected for the residencies through an open call process conducted every three years, and additional studio spaces are filled as they become available.

This year’s new artists will move into the field houses next month.
