Erato Ensemble goes deep to protect oceans

This year, Living Oceans Society volunteers removed an estimated 40 tons of marine debris from northern Vancouver Island’s otherwise pristine beaches—and now you get to help by sitting in a comfy chair while listening to great music. As they say, what’s not to like? Erato Ensemble’s The Living Ocean: Music Inspired by the Beauty, Power and Protection of the Sea, at the Orpheum Annex on Saturday (November 26), is a fundraiser for the Sointula-based group that focuses on the life aquatic. With the tunes running from selections of Edward Elgar’s classic Sea Pictures to composer Glenn Sutherland and poet Susan Hughson’s new collaboration, Small Waves, is there a better reason to come out of the rain and get into the surf?
