Holiday nuts and dance fans: mark your calendars. And if you’re planning to travel through Vancouver’s downtown core this weekend, you may need to remap your route.

The Robson Street Business Association is shutting down traffic between Burrard Street and Bute Street this Saturday (December 10) at 6 p.m. in order to showcase “Winter’s Dance”, a high-tech interpretation of one of the season’s most beloved ballets, The Nutcracker.

Presented in partnership with local dance production company Small Stage, the 15-minute performance will be projected onto six eight-by-eight-foot screens lining the centre of Robson Street.

The performance will be broadcasted on loop until 9 p.m. During this time, Blenz Coffee will be offering cups of hot cocoa to shoppers onsite and various shops and restaurants along Robson Street will also be getting into the holiday spirit with special deals and promotions.

Vehicle traffic will be stopped at 3 p.m. in order to prepare for the presentation. Once the screens are taken down, traffic will resume at 11 p.m.

Translink bus routes will also be affected during this time.
