87 Days at 860 East Cordova Street
For the entire 87 days that the Gulf oil spill lasted, Vancouver multimedia artist Oraf collected debris the tide had brought into Sunset Beach. We can’t tell you exactly what the resulting installation will look like, but we do know it will be fascinating: the artist has constructed a labyrinth and face mask out of his collected garbage, a massive, visceral statement on what we’re doing to our oceans. The show, called 87 Days, runs from this Friday to next (June 22 to 29) at 860 East Cordova Street, with a performance by the artist himself on opening night at 8 p.m.
