The Vancouver Recital Society has announced its lineup for 2017–18 and it features the return of familiar faces as well many new ones.

As part of its 38th season, the local concert presenter will welcome pianists Paul Lewis and Sir András Schiff to the Vancouver Playhouse next spring, both of whom will draw from the works of composers such as Brahms, Beethoven, and Mozart. Next May, Yuja Wang will take to the VRS stage at UBC's Chan Centre for the Performing Arts for the first time in eight years.

VRS’s Next Generation series, meanwhile, will see pianists Schaghajegh Nosrati—a protégé of Schiff—and Zhang Zuo making their Canadian debuts. British cellists Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who was the 2016 BBC Young Artist of the Year, and French cellist Edgar Moreau will also perform in December and the following April, respectively.

Other highlights include the first Vancouver presentation by Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar String Quartet and the return of Irish mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught.

A new Classic Afternoon series will also see VRS regulars George Li, Marc-André Hamelin, and Inon Barnatan, as well as the gold-medal winner of the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, at the Chan Centre. The name of the fourth pianist will be revealed on June 10 following the completion of the competition in Fort Worth, Texas.

Finally, VRS’s Peak Performance series will feature the Nicola Benedetti/Leonard Elschenbroich/Alexei Grynyuk trio; violinist Nikolaj Znaider with pianist Robert Kulek; and cellist Alban Gerhardt with pianist Steven Osborne.
