Tinder Tales pokes fun at online dating

The problem with Tinder is that everyone is on it.

Let’s be real. We—like you—set our radius to two kilometers, and we—like you—regularly run into our digital matches on the bus. And that’s ignoring all those people in our neighbourhood that we went on one date with, never spoke to again, and later discovered is the new bartender at our favourite local joint.

That’s not to mention the amount of competition there is out there. Being Vancouver, the entire city—and yes, even as far as Maple Ridge—is full of fitspiration models. Hikers, bikers, and crossfitters abound—which goes a long way to explaining why our “matches” tab hasn’t seemed to have updated in the last three months.

Why do we even keep the app on our phone? Because it’s hilarious.

From potential dates suggesting that they’ve just got out of prison and need a place to stay, to coming across your cousin, swiping “yes” as a joke, and getting a match, sometimes all you can do is laugh.

Tinder Tales aims to inspire just that. An evening of professional and amateur daters, storytellers, and comedians confessing their most outrageous online dating stories, the event brings together those who appreciate the ridiculousness of meeting a complete stranger for a drink.

Hosted by Patrick Maliha—known for his spot-on impressions and excellent Comedy Mix compering—this week’s special one-year anniversary evening will feature comedians Suzy Rawsome and Colin Lamb, and a whole host of eager daters.

If you’ve ever been unexpectedly benched by a hot guy or taken to Tinder in search of finding the perfect new bedside lamp for sale, this show is for you.

Tinder Tales in at the Fox Cabaret on Saturday (June 10), from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets are available here.
