Chisels and Chainsaws at the Beaumont Studios

If the term chain-saw art makes you think of giant carvings of grizzly bears, you haven’t seen the work of Vancouver’s Jesse Toso. Toso has transformed huge logs into works of art, like a menacing five-metre-wide spider he recently created. However, an exhibit that includes his smaller carvings, titled Chisels and Chainsaws, takes places at the Beaumont Studios until October 3. No hulking eagles here: think instead of intricate relief carvings of a Chinese dragon and a Minoan octopus, a polished maple skull, and several abstract works. Also on display in the intimate gallery are pieces by driftwood carver Kevin Davies and Wood Roots Furniture.
