The Arts Club’s Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre kicks off its season with a play that not only nabbed an Olivier Award in London but also Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize back home in America. Issues of race and integration, it seems, know no borders. Bruce Norris’s script tells the story of an African-American family that moves into a Chicago house in 1959 to the horror of its white neighbours; then it jumps forward 50 years, when two white newlyweds try to buy the same place in the predominantly black neighbourhood. The New York Times calls Clybourne Park a “strong, ferociously funny” play that will be relevant—unfortunately—for many, many years to come.
