Good Timber—Songs & Stories of the Western Logger at the Firehall Arts Centre
It’s not often that you see our lumberjack history played out on-stage. Enter Good Timber—Songs & Stories of the Western Logger, produced by Victoria’s The Other Guys Theatre Company and running at the Firehall Arts Centre until next Sunday (August 19). It’s based on the logger poetry of “Bard of the Woods” Robert E. Swanson and takes place against projections of archival imagery from a time when loggers still had to climb trees and everyone in the industry knew what a chokerman, punk, and cat skinner were. Good Timber originally opened at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria in 2010 and plays out like a rollicking musical revue.
