Kid Gloves at the Firehall Arts Centre
We’re betting actors Colleen Wheeler and Dawn Petten are going to have a riot in Kid Gloves playing Canada’s first two female police officers, hired by the Vancouver Police Department in 1912. Playwright Sally Stubbs has created a fictionalized account of the women’s lives on the force, starting with their first task of taking on the “female morality problem”. The script tackles feminism, prejudice, racism, corruption, and the sex and violence that are part of the job. The show—directed by Donna Spencer and boasting an A-list cast that also includes Scott Bellis, Marlene Ginader, Patrick Keating, and Deborah Williams—runs at the Firehall Arts Centre from Saturday (November 10) to December 1.
