LEO at the Cultch
Think physical theatre, Chaplinesque clowning, and floors that morph freakily into walls: in LEO, Berlin-based company Circle of Eleven uses projected video to warp your sense of perspective and gravity. Tobias Wegner is the performer at the centre of the utterly unique one-man show, which won a slew of awards at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeing it is believing, but here’s how the New York Times tried to describe it: “The spectacle is refreshingly low key, with Mr. Wegner’s arduous balances and deft physical adjustments coming in service of the moods and ideas he hopes to convey rather than showing off sheer muscular virtuosity. Even on the actual floor or wall, how can he position himself to make it look as if he were floating instead of scooting on his back, or sitting cross-legged instead of lying?” That’s good enough for us. It’s at the Cultch from Tuesday to next Sunday (December 4 to 9) and December 11 to 15.
