The Sinking of the Titanic at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre
We’re upset with the Redshift Music Society: really, really upset. But only because the innovative company, which focuses on site-specific concerts of contemporary music, is holding its next event at 9 p.m. on Tuesday (December 4), which means we can’t get a review into the paper. The Sinking of the Titanic finds Victoria’s Aventa Ensemble performing Gavin Bryars’s piece of the same name, a significant draw in itself. But here’s the best part: the show takes place in the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, and audience members are invited to listen from the pool, provided they bring bathing attire. Also on the bill will be premieres from B.C. composers Jordan Nobles, Jennifer Butler, and Giorgio Magnanensi. Did we mention the light show? Be there or be, um, dry.
