Mindless diversion expertly performed. Tara Travis plays Henry VIII and all six of his wives, who meet in purgatory to figure out who deserves to spend eternity with the king. Travis’s characterizations are huge but precise as she flips between the haughty Catherine of Aragon, the slutty valley girl Kathryn Howard, and Anne Boleyn, who’s pissed off because all that’s left of her is a head.

Travis’s energetic charm and flashes of emotional depth impress—far more than Ryan Gladstone’s script. The joke about Anne of Cleves being ugly is never funny although it recycles endlessly, and having the characters call one another wiener schnitzel and nerd is not the height of wit.
