Vancouver Fringe Festival review: Alpha has mixed success with hockey story

    1 of 1 2 of 1

All stories are about struggle. Interesting stories maintain tension by mixing failure and success. In Alpha, writer and performer Evan Frayne introduces us to Rick, a young hockey player from Vancouver Island who is desperately trying to keep his NHL dreams alive while battling alcohol. Frayne is a charming, vulnerable actor and his characters' voices ring true, but, because Rick's trajectory is unidirectional,Alpha repeats itself.

      At Studio 16 on September 9 (12:45 p.m.), 10 (6:15 p.m.), 13 (8:30 p.m.), and 15 (8 p.m.).
