Vancouver Fringe Festival review: Martin Dockery's The Bike Trip well worth the journey

    1 of 1 2 of 1

The Fringe circuit exists so that we can see artists like Martin Dockery. The same guy who brought us Wanderlust a couple of years ago, now brings us The Bike Trip, which is about how LSD has helped him to liberate himself emotionally. As a storyteller, Dockery specializes in absurdity and honesty, and acid gives him ample opportunity to explore both as we travel with him to Haight-Ashbury, the state of Goa in India, and, climactically, to Switzerland, where scientist Albert Hofmann took the world’s first acid trip. The Bike Trip is about 10 minutes too long, but Dockery is so eccentrically energetic and his material is so funny—and surprising—that, for the most part, I was riveted.

      At the Waterfront Theatre on September 8 (9:50 p.m.), 9 (1:40 p.m.), 11 (9:30 p.m.), 14 (5 p.m.), and 15 (3:55 p.m.).
