Vancouver International Song Institute announces 2012 Songfire Festival of Song

The festival features performances, lectures, dialogues, workshops, and masterclasses in a celebration and examination of art song.

This year’s must-see events include Playing with Fire, a June 8 performance at the Orpheum Annex featuring performances by piano and voice duos of world premieres created by composer and poet teams from the Songfire Art Song Lab; the Arts of Conscience Symposium and Film Series (June 11 to 16), a week-long retreat of workshops and sessions with community artist activists, combined with lectures from renowned activists and selected film screenings; and famed British baritone Sir Thomas Allen in concert June 13 at UBC’s Chan Centre, in a program of works by Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven.
