Vancouver’s Chan Centre unveils 2012-2013 concert series
Vancouver's Chan Centre for the Performing Arts has announced a lineup of award-winning, international artists for its 2012-2013 concert season.
Jazz, Latin, bluegrass, and world music will be featured in the six-concert series, which runs from October to April.
“Our vision for the 2012-13 season was to gather together a group of leading performers who not only represent the world, but who represent those who strive to make significant global change,” the Chan Centre’s Joyce Hinton said in a release today (June 6).
“The resulting programme is an exciting, eclectic line-up of artistic innovators and activists, whose combined efforts have helped break musical boundaries, bring aid where it is needed, and leave indelible marks upon society,” Hinton said.
The concerts include Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo on October 13, Grammy Award-winner and renowned pianist Chucho Valdés on November 2, and the five-member bluegrass band Punch Brothers on November 24.
In the new year, the concerts include a mix of Argentinian tango and modern jazz with the Pablo Ziegler Quartet and Regina Carter on February 16, Mexican singer-songwriter Lila Downs on April 21, and Palestinian composer and musician Simon Shaheen on April 27.
Season subscriptions and ticket packages are now on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or the Chan Centre ticket office. More information is available at www.chancentre.com.
