Wittenberg at Pacific Theatre

Comments

In David Davalos’sWittenberg, three famous figures come together in a campus comedy with a smartypants twist: the play has been described as a prequel to Hamlet, Doctor Faustus, and the Protestant Reformation. At Wittenberg University, theology professor Martin Luther and philosophy professor Dr. Faustus square off in a fight for the soul of the young Hamlet, a teenaged tennis champion. Faustus’s office is in Room 2B, and he has a weekly gig at the Bunghole, a local tavern, where he is fond of singing “Que Será Será.” In this staged reading, which is being mounted by Pacific Theatre Wednesdays through Saturdays until November 10, Stephen Drover directs a cast that features the considerable talents of Anthony F. Ingram as Faustus and Marcus Youssef as Luther.
