Wonderheads' Grim and Fischer at the Cultch
If you missed it at the 2011 Vancouver International Fringe Festival, now’s your chance: Wonderheads’ Grim and Fischer returns to town to play the Cultch from January 3 to January 13, and it’s some of the most coolly surreal mask work you’re going to see on a stage any time soon. It’s not exactly uplifting holiday stuff, though: entirely dialogue-free, it’s the story of the last days of a fiercely stubborn old woman. But it’s never maudlin, and brings an equal number of laughs as tears. As the Edmonton Journal put it: “Anyone who has lost someone they loved should expect to be deeply moved by this imaginative encounter with the Grim Reaper.” That’s pretty much all of us.
