Wonderland at the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre
Project Limelight got a visit from a big star last week when Richard Branson hit its offices with a donation; but now the kids’ theatre program is ready for its young stars to take the spotlight. Wonderland features the eight-to-12-year-old Downtown Eastside and Strathcona kids who have worked through its free community program to learn stage techniques and other skills from volunteer professionals. The resulting music-and-dance-filled, Lewis Carroll–style, contemporary spin on the classic pantomime is directed by Paul Belanger, with elaborate costumes by Jodi Jacyk, and sets by the Straight’s own Mark Pilon. See the results of the innovative program on Saturday (June 2) at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre, at SFU Woodward’s in the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. And bring the kids.
