Rare Maurice Sendak drawings are up for grabs

New York City-based Swann Auction Galleries is hosting an exclusive sale of original 20th century illustrations, art, and books by famous artists and authors, including Beatrix Potter, Dr. Seuss, and, of course, Maurice Sendak.

The sale draws largely from the collection of late bookseller and Sendak aficionado Reed Orenstein, whose library contains many of the iconic artist and author’s first editions, several of which are signed and contain small sketches and inscriptions.

So if you’re looking to get your hands on a signed first edition of Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are (1963), a pencil drawing by Beatrix Potter (1895), or an early ink-and-pencil Peanuts comic by Charles Schulz (1953), hop a plane before January 24, the date the sale is scheduled to take place.

For those literati less inclined to travel, Swann also takes bids online.
