High on Fire frontman calls Aerosmith "the crappiest, most overrated shit band of all time."
I think Aerosmith's latest music stinks as much as the next rock fan who's not an idiot, but it sounds to me like the frontman from California stoner-metal trio High On Fire (who they fuck are they?) is really going overboard with his rant posted at A.V.Club.com today.
Matt Pike was featured in the site's Hate Song column, where "our favourite musicians, writers, comedians, and actors expound on the one song they hate most in the world." Pike chose Aerosmith's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"--which I don't care much for either--but then he went on to crap all over the band, not even considering how wicked they were in the '70s.
"I have this button called the off button or the mute button that I call the Aerosmith button on all my stereos," Pike expounded. "I just have this weird thing with Aerosmith, where I don’t even care what people say about their old shit. I think they’re the crappiest, most overrated shit band of all time. And I fucking can’t stand them. [Laughs.] And that particular song gets under my skin to where I want to stab people."
I suggest Pike take a good close listen to albums like Get Your Wings, Rocks and Draw the Line--or even the underrated Done With Mirrors--before writing Aerosmith off as never any good. Or he could just check this out. Then again, when A.V. Club interviewer Marah Eakin told him that "Dude" was supposed to be about Mötley Crüe, he showed his true colours as far as taste in music goes.
"Well, I don’t care," he ranted. "I love Mötley Crüe, because they’re fucking 10 times the band that Aerosmith is."
I couldn't agree less.
