Coffee consumption celebrated

I no longer need to feel guilty about glugging down copious amounts of coffee.

That's because I just read "The Case for Drinking as Much Coffee as You Like" by Lindsay Abrams, which appeared at the end of November on theatlantic.com/.

Here are some things you might not realize:

      • Coffee appears to reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

      • There's an inverse association between heart failure and habitual, moderate coffee consumption.

      • Coffee works as a pain reliever.

      • Unfiltered coffee can increase good cholesterol and reduce bad cholesterol.

It's not all good news, however. Abrams points out that there are known carcinogens in coffee.

However, coffee can also protect against certain tumours, including the most aggressive form of prostate cancer.

I used to justify my coffee consumption by saying that the French philosopher François-Marie Arouet Voltaire reportedly drank 30 to 80 cups a day—and look what he accomplished.

Now, I'll simply cite the health benefits.

What is important to note is that the way coffee affects a person's health has to do with nutrigenomics..
Depending on how your genetic make-up programs your metabolism, coffee might be really good for you, or it might be very bad for you..
