Barry Robson's time with Whitecaps FC didn't last long

There was a noticeable absence on the Burnaby Lake practice field as the Vancouver Whitecaps began their first day of training camp earlier today (January 21): Scottish midfielder Barry Robson, who joined the team midway through last season, was nowhere to be seen.

This afternoon, the 'Caps announced a mutual parting of ways with the 34-year-old, who will likely be best remembered in these parts for screaming at teammates and officials and wildly waving his arms in the air rather than for anything he did while in possession of the soccer ball.

To be fair, Robson did score three times in 18 matches and was part of the Whitecaps' first Major League Soccer appearance last fall, but he was hardly the impact player the organization was hoping for when it signed Robson after two seasons with Middlesborough in the English Premier League.

According to a Whitecaps release, Robson and his family never felt settled in Vancouver.

"Thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, fans, and media for making my experience in Vancouver enjoyable," said Robson in the team-issued statement. "I am now looking forward to returning home and beginning the next chapter in my career."

The Whitecaps will continue to train in Burnaby this week before taking their camp to Arizona for a pair of exhibition games. They open their MLS season on March 2 at home against Toronto FC.

Glad he is gone.. Although he had skill,. he was only known for waving his arms like a bird and yelling at teammates... Seems to have brought a negative vibe into the team. He wasn't creative enough in the midfield.
