While on this side of the Atlantic, U.S. president Barack Obama reiterated his support of gay rights in his inauguration speech, Karl Lagerfeld expressed his support in the world of high fashion in a visual way.

At the close of the Chanel spring haute couture show on January 22 in Paris, two models in matching bridal dresses strode down the catwalk, hand-in-hand, with a child (Lagerfeld's four-year-old godson) at their side.

The German fashion designer said he was expressing his support for the French government's plans to legalize same-sex marriage, which has sparked controversy and demonstrations, both in favour of and against, across the nation.

The video below captures the show, with the brides appearing around the 1:55 mark.
