Blur and Red Hot Chili Peppers top this year's Coachella

As far as holy-shit reunions go, it’s not going to make anyone forget past hatchet-burying appearances by the likes of the Pixies and Refused. And, on the headliners front, um, Blur and the Red Hot Chili Peppers? That’s not exactly in the same league as Dr. Dre with Kayne West or even the Black Keys.

Still, there are plenty of reasons to get excited about this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup, which was officially unveiled yesterday.

On the reunited-and-it-feels-so-good front (especially when the cheques are cut) we’re going to get appearances by the Postal Service, Descendents, Dead Can Dance, Violent Femmes and New Order. Acts returning from hiatuses will include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Grinderman, and Sigur Ros. Vancouver acts making the trek down south will include Japandroids and Tegan and Sara.

Punk die-hards will by happy to see the Dropkick Murphys, Jello Biafra and Social Distortion representing, while hip-hop heads will get their fix from the likes of Wu-Tang Clan and Jurrassic 5. On the EDM front, the lineup includes Simian Mobile Disco, Paul Oakenfold, and Richie Hawtin. As with last year, the festival will run over two consecutive weekends, April 12-14, and April 19-21

Go here for the full Coachella lineup.
